Braille and Tactile Signage Solutions
Since the Equality Act was introduced in 2010 to legally protect people from discrimination in the workplace and society, there’s more responsibility on employers to be more inclusive.<
With employers of all sizes legally obliged to comply with the legislation, it’s essential that organisations pay careful attention to their signage.
The average business will have anywhere between 20 to 30 of wayfinding signs – from signs for reception, meeting rooms, fire escapes, rest rooms to parking.
For the visually impaired, it can be a real challenge to navigate a building. By including braille and tactile signage (letters that can be felt), employers can help people feel more comfortable in their space while complying with the Equality Act.

Braille and Tactile Signage Solutions
Braille signs consist of raised characters felt by the person who runs their fingertips across the surface to provide them with information they cannot see.
Tactile lettering can also be used with braille so that those with and without sight loss can interpret the sign. The embossed letters are simply raised from the surface.

Manufactured in line with RNIB guidelines
NES Solutions are market-leaders at manufacturing braille and tactile signage in line with the RNIB’s ‘Sign Design Guide’.
The main qualities of an Equality Act compliant sign are:

  • Tactile lettering is raised above the surface of the sign by at least 0.8mm.
  • There is a clear contrast between the lettering and the background colour.
  • Braille is positioned beneath the embossed tactile lettering.
  • Braille is round-topped rather than flat.

Our signage is ideal for schools, magistrates’ courts, the NHS, and for those looking to meet Health & Safety Disability Discrimination Act requirements covered within the Equality Act. All signs are made to order to meet our customer requirements.

Bespoke wayfinding signs
NES Ltd can manufacture bespoke signs to match others already in place.
Our bespoke signs are created using CNC routing and engraving techniques with laminated acrylic sheets. The braille is then manually inserted into very accurately drilled holes. They can be made to any colour, size, and font type.
