Brass Cladding

NES Architectural are experts in the design, fabrication, patina and installation of Brass Cladding.

Typical Brass Cladding Sheet Sizes

  • 1000 x 2000 mm (1 x 2 meters)
  • 1200 x 2400 mm (1.2 x 2.4 meters)
  • 1220 x 3000 mm (1.22 x 3 meters)

Preferred Brass Grade and Thickness

For patinated brass cladding, NES recommends 2mm thick CZ108 sheets. This ensures the material maintains its structural rigidity during manufacture and when installed, reducing deflection and distortion.

Finishing Options

  • Virgin Brass: A bright, golden gilt finish offering a clean and modern aesthetic.
  • Patina: A uniform bronze tone created in large immersion tanks to reduce inconsistencies or surface blemishes.
  • Antique Patina: Builds upon the bronze patina with a blackening stage. Panels are hand-polished to reveal a cloudy blend of gold, bronze, and black hues.
  • Blackened Brass: A darker finish, carefully controlled during development to avoid excessive soot and maintain depth and tone.

Surface Textures for Visual Depth

We offer the following structured surface finishes:

  • Orbital Brushed (DA): A circular, brushed pattern often subtle beneath patination. Grit options allow control over visibility.
  • Linear Brushed: A directional grain that enhances geometric aesthetics.
  • Polished: A smooth, reflective surface for more artistic applications. Note: this finish is more susceptible to marks and should be specified with care.

Protective Coatings and Top Coats

  • External Use: We recommend an inorganic wax coating, supplied as a spray for ongoing maintenance and protection against the elements.
  • Internal Use: A 1K clear lacquer is available. This protective layer allows for easy maintenance: minor scratches can be polished out and additional layers can be applied on-site without heating or ventilation—unlike 2K systems.
