NES manufactured water jet cut bronze anodised spandrel cladding panels for this prestigious refurbishment project.
The cladding panels themselves are fabricated from 3mm J57S aluminium. This is water jet cut to the custom pattern. This pattern is inspired by Herringbone Tweed in an abstract form. Rotations of this pattern are used across the face to create movement. This was developed by Mario Garcez of Denton Corker Marshall Architects. The 4 meter x 2 meter water jet cutting machine allows for accuracy of +/- 0.1mm and smooth curves straight from the architects CAD file.
The aluminium has been anodised to Bronze 543. The highly reflective surface of the metal and the different colours depending on the viewing angle and ambient light levels bring extra visual interest to the complex patterns.
The panels are internally backed up with powder coated black aluminium. This provides both contrast and strength to the highly perforated panel. The anodising has an 80 year / life of the building estimated lifetime. This ensures the cladding embodies he timeless style of Savile Row.
Inside the building NES also produced digitally printed UV panels for the inside of the lift shaft. This continued the theme as the glass lift wall allows this to be viewed while travelling up the building. In the reception NES' 'Lightline' brand designed, manufactured and installed a particularly unique and impressive 'infinity mirror'. This featured 2 layers of structurally bonded glass with a frameless gold anodised trim. Inside this 3 frames of diffused LED strips are then reflected back in and up to form an endlessly repeating total internal refraction effect.
The building was originally developed as part of the Burington Estate. The refurbishment brings the tired old facade to Grade A standards. The enhancements the building is both sensitive to the surrounding architecture and the history of the site. The ground floor retail and newly refurbished offices both benefit from these enhancements.
