28 Savile Row

NES manufactured water jet cut bronze anodised spandrel cladding panels for this prestigious refurbishment project.
The cladding panels themselves are fabricated from 3mm J57S aluminium. This is water jet cut to the custom pattern. This pattern is inspired by Herringbone Tweed in an abstract form. Rotations of this pattern are used across the face to create movement. This was developed by Mario Garcez of Denton Corker Marshall Architects. The 4 meter x 2 meter water jet cutting machine allows for accuracy of +/- 0.1mm and smooth curves straight from the architects CAD file.
The aluminium has been anodised to Bronze 543. The highly reflective surface of the metal and the different colours depending on the viewing angle and ambient light levels bring extra visual interest to the complex patterns. The panels are internally backed up with powder coated black aluminium. This provides both contrast and strength to the highly perforated panel. The anodising has an 80 year / life of the building estimated lifetime. This ensures the cladding embodies he timeless style of Savile Row.

Inside the building NES also produced digitally printed UV panels for the inside of the lift shaft. This continued the theme as the glass lift wall allows this to be viewed while travelling up the building. In the reception NES' 'Lightline' brand designed, manufactured and installed a particularly unique and impressive 'infinity mirror'. This featured 2 layers of structurally bonded glass with a frameless gold anodised trim. Inside this 3 frames of diffused LED strips are then reflected back in and up to form an endlessly repeating total internal refraction effect.

The building was originally developed as part of the Burington Estate. The refurbishment brings the tired old facade to Grade A standards. The enhancements the building is both sensitive to the surrounding architecture and the history of the site. The ground floor retail and newly refurbished offices both benefit from these enhancements.

Aquis House - Kinetic Façade

Class A commercial office space comes to Reading.

Working closely with Stanley Bragg Architects NES has recently completed the design manufacture and installation of the Glass Façade, Mirror Polished Stainless Steel Soffit, Flashing, Brushed Stainless Steel Column, Main Signs, LED Light Wall and Illuminated desk.

The “kinetic façade” has a frosted geodesic pattern on the internal face of the 2.85m high frameless glass. This has a subtle but dynamic effect in different lights and from different viewpoints.

The building logo appears to float above the glass due to the void behind the glass.

In the evening the impressive LED Light Wall shines through the ground floor glazing with a clean white LED Illumination of low iron glass with arctic snow interlayered diffuser.
Also a LED linear strip is seamlessly integrated into the mirror polished stainless steel flashing round the glass. This acts as a subtle Keyline of feature illumination for the façade.

The project team included:

Stanley Bragg - Architect
Scott Osbourne - Lead Contractor
USS - Client
GVA - Commercial Property Management Consultancy
DTZ - Commercial Property Management Consultancy

Castle Mall

Lighting up for Christmas 2015!

NES was tasked with the recladding of the architecturally important Back of Inns entrance to the Castle Mall Shopping Centre in Norwich city centre.
The façade is clad with mirror polished, silver anodised 3mm J57s aluminium that has been water jet cut with filigree perforations.
We have also mounted LED Light Boxing in behind them. These LEDs have an orange film to create a glow. The LEDs deliver spectacular evening visuals and pick up the line of the old ridged façade.
The columns are clad in power coated white matt finish aluminium on their upper sections to refract light from the eliptical lensed downlighting LEDs. The lower sections are clad in Rimex canvas finish 316 grade stainless steel.
To the left and right of the main entrance the filigree perforation is imitated with a two colour powder coating process. The 3D design is particularly sophisticated. Illuminated soffit cladding and the illuminated columns will also be installed for the 15st November 2015

Royal Court Theatre, Liverpool

The £2.8m face lift of the Royal Court Theatre in Liverpool's important Lime Street Square has recently been completed.
The full works include the entrance and foyer area, basement bar and performance space, and the first-floor circle bar and toilets.
The iconic 1930's art deco building is Grade II listed. The architect team worked closely with council planners to ensure the new works both complimented the existing build and was sympathetic to the existing architecture in the square.
The critical lines of sight of the buildings opposite were maintained by tapering the back of the 8 meter digital screen to a point onto 160mm in width. This represented a number of design challenges solved by NES' 3D CAD Inventor drawing.

Cladding:
The cladding is fabricated from 2mm Corten A. In addition to the frameless fixed hook on system NES was responsible for the damp proof membrane, insulation and breather membrane.
The cladding was supplied in grey mill finish. This is to allow the natural rusting of the steel. Though this takes longer than chemical rusting to produce a complete rust layer the effect is very even.
The 40mm air gap behind the cladding provides ventilation to prevent condensation build up and dry the facade.

Digital Screen
To the rear of the screen there are louvered sections to allow fresh air to ventilate the air conditioning units on the roof behind the screen. There are opening lockable doors in the back of the screen. This allows maintenance to be conducted from within the structure or outside the structure depending on the screen being maintained. Each of the digital screens is 960 x 960 x 160mm and individually removable. Within each of these modules 160 x 160mm tiles can be removed from inside the structure.
The back of the screen has a light sensor fitted. This allows for dynamic brightness control and for the screen to operate at far higher output levels without dazzling drivers with high relative brightness or glare.
At ground level the screen had 15mm toughened low iron glass fitted framelessly into the flashing. This protects the screen from graffiti and vandalism in this high traffic area.

Borough High Street

The impressive Borough High Street renovation. This project included a recladding of the tired old concrete facade on the 4th floor. In addition to this a balustrade for a 5th floor external was added.
600 sq. meters of 2mm Corten.
4.1m tall rain screen cladding. Water jet cut perforations to balustrade section.

In addition to the rain screen façade works, visionary architects Stiff and Trevillion designed a sculpted entrance and reception feature cladding. This was fabricated from 2mm Corten and chemically rusted to create an organic texture to the surface of the metal. This was then chemically blackened and sealed. The rich brown rust tones mix with the blackening of the steel to create depth and texture. The inspiration for this was the Paul Smith Albemarle Street store Façade in Mayfair.
The water jet cut perforated pattern is accurate to +/- 0.1mm. This allowed the clad doors to seamlessly fit back flush to the entrance wall when open.

Monument Place

Light Box Direct has designed, manufactured and installed a ground breaking light box in the reception of the brand new Monument Place new build office in Monument Square.

The development is "Inspired by Sir Christopher Wren’s Monument and his ambition to build a new London".

The LED Light Box is an impressive 3750 x 1855mm in size.
This is manufactured from a single sheet of opal polycarbonate with a direct UV print image to the face.
This ensures the scale and impact of the gilded urn of fire is uncompromised.
The 4mm opal polycarbonate has ultra high light transmission this prevents the illumination of the light box looking dull or dirty.
This clean white light is also helped with the use of powderful Matrix LED Light Panels 100mm behind the face.
Matrix LED Light Panels have an estimated lifetime of 50,000 hours. These are controlled directly via the Dali building light management system. Ensuring energy efficiency and the delivery of a cohesive light design to be offered.
The polycarbonate is bullet proof, protecting it from shattering in this high impact environment.
The weight of the light box is low at ~10kgs per square meter. This allowed for quick and safe installation of the light box onto the existing portland stone wall cadding.

Porcelain Tiles

Porcelain Tiles are known for their exceptional range of porcelain tile products with a retail shop and a design studio in Temple Fortune.

For their exhibition at the 100% design show in Kensington Olympia they wanted 3 LED light boxes to reinforce their brand from all directions. It was important the black in the logo was a true back. To provide this we used pre-painted Aluminium Composite Material (ACM). The logo was routed into this and backed up with opal acrylic. This was illuminated with our "Matrix LED Light Panel" product with a 6,000k colour temperature. The depth of the light boxes was just 50mm. This gave them the cutting edge architectural feel they were looking for, rather than the more traditional bulky 150mm fluorescent tube light boxes of old. The use of folded ACM allowed for a smooth corner as the face and returns was constructed from a single sheet. Each of the 3 light boxes is comprised of two halves for ease of transportation and installation. The 180 degree ACM joint is made seamless and flush with a bonded lap joint.

In addition to this latest exhibition we have provided fabric faced LED light boxes, freestanding fabric faced light boxes, external illuminated facades and projecting light boxes over the last few years. A combination of the highest quality, price and diligent customer service has driven this client relationship.
